Singapore's Robot Caregivers: Supporting an Ageing Society

How can robotics and artificial intelligence support care in an ageing society?

In this ARD Weltspiegel feature, Singapore is highlighted for its growing use of humanoid robots in nursing homes and rehabilitation settings, where technology is being explored to support activities, facilitate engagement and help address the challenges of an ageing population and care workforce.

As a dementia care specialist with a focus on dementia-friendly environments, meaningful engagement and emerging care technologies, Prudence Chan is interested in how innovation can be translated into practical, person-centred care.

Technology offers exciting possibilities, but its value should be considered in terms of the individual: Does it encourage participation? Does it support dignity and autonomy? Can it create opportunities for meaningful interaction while allowing care professionals to focus on human connection?

The future of dementia care is not simply about introducing more technology. It is about ensuring that technology serves people, strengthens care practice and enhances quality of life.
